Approach

In ancient times, the practice of yoga was dedicated to preparing the body for meditation. Today, the physical practice has morphed into a moving meditation, designed to help us find a deeper connection to ourself, and in doing so, moves us towards a better understanding of ourselves within the world around us.

We know that yoga works. You arrive to your practice in one state, and you leave your practice in a completely different state, hopefully one of more joy. You leave your practice with tools to live a richer, more present, more informed and more contented life.

This is the magic of yoga.

At Swell Yoga Studio we are dedicated to providing a variety of classes, so that you can discover which style of yoga works for you so that you too can discover the magic.

Founder

Yoga soothes my soul. It creates an energy and presence within myself that is simultaneously buoyant and grounded. It allows me to peel away layer upon layer of my ego. It enables me to be the best version of myself, as a devoted student, teacher, and now mother. It is my intention as a studio owner, to provide a space for students to experience this themselves, as I continue to develop the practice myself.

I experienced my first yoga class with an old-school devotee of Hatha yoga, whilst I was at university studying geography and political science. Upon arriving home, I announced to my family that instead of becoming an academic, I was going to teach yoga.

I continued practicing whilst

studying abroad and completing my Honours in International Relations. I wanted to find a vocation where I could live and breathe the teachings of yoga.

My now husband and I moved to Sydney so I could

pursue my dream of working in the not-for-profit sector. It was here that I found a home away from home in a small rustic yoga studio nestled in the eastern suburbs. It was my little oasis, whilst working in the hustling city.

After a couple of years of living in Sydney, we decided it was time to take off on a one-way ticket to southern Asia, and this was where I dove deep into the study of yoga.

After many years abroad, we decided it was time to lay some roots in the sleepy coastal town of Margaret River.

Yet something felt a little amiss. Where was my little yoga oasis. And so I opened up the doors of Swell Yoga Studio, in the hope that one day, it too, would be a little oasis for other wearisome souls.

We acknowledge with utmost respect and gratitude the traditional custodians of Wadandi Boodja, the land that we practice upon and those from which this wisdom was born. We pay our respect to all elders past, present and future.
